Saving the Environment Through Recycling
RSVP volunteers working at the Garrett Recycle Center are making a difference in their community by assisting residents in recycling cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, iron, and aluminum. Just drive your vehicle into the center and the RSVP volunteers will unload you recyclable materials, and then you can just drive out. Recycling made easy by a very ambitious group of volunteers who care about the environment. The Garrett Recycling Center (staffed totally by RSVP volunteers) has recycled 26 tons of magazines, 96 tons of paper, 17 tons of plastics, 8 tons of sheet iron, 2 tons of aluminum, 51 tons of cardboard, and 106 tons of glass this past year. The hours of the ten RSVP volunteers who work there total 3120 for the year. The impact on the environment…priceless!
These RSVP volunteers are even crossing the generational divide to teach the youth in the area the importance of saving the environment by inviting young people to volunteer alongside them. This opportunity with the youth will impact the environment for years to come as they become adults and pass the knowledge on.
