Scott Broady - Behind-the-Scenes Warrior
At Admission Possible, we work with low-income high school students to help them get into college and succeed in college. Our coaches are based in high schools serving students directly - there to see first-hand their triumphs and challenges - and receive a lot of glory for their service. As an organization, though, we know it's important to expand students' horizons in other ways: giving them opportunities to practice the standardized exams that will ultimately play a major role in their college admissions, and getting them onto college campuses to find their dream school. This is where Scott Broady comes in.
From the beginning, Scott has embraced his behind-the-scenes role of serving not just the students, but their coaches as well. He has organized over 20 campus visits, successfully coordinating between college representatives, bus companies, coaches, and students. If students don't show up for visits, rather than blame them or their coaches, he works to refine his system to make sure that the maximum number of students get to experience campus life. To date, Scott has worked with college campuses to provide over 1000 seats on campus visits.
Even less glamourously, Scott has organized four practice ACT exams at 12 different high schools. No student loves the experience of taking four hour practice exams at 8am on Saturday mornings, but recognizing the importance of this service, Scott painstakingly counts out over 700 test booklets each time, making sure there are enough granola bars for each student at their early morning tests.
Throughout all of his service here, Scott has maintained an infallibly positive attitude. He faces challenges from all sides and often has to act as an intermediary, but he embraces his role for the sake of the students. More than anyone I've ever worked with, Scott truly keeps his eye on the prize, even when lost in the minutiae of his day-to-day service.
Scott understands the nature of service. To him, service is giving, and he asks for nothing in return. Because of his ability to embrace service on a daily basis, our students have gotten opportunities they wouldn't have without this program. He is an invaluable team member, and I wholeheartedly nominate him for the Service Impact Award!
